Assistant Professor of Design (Tenure Track)

The Saint Mary’s College Department of Art invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Design beginning August 2026.

 

Teaching, Research, and Service Expectations:

• A teaching load of three courses per semester that includes courses in graphic design, typography, web design, and foundation design, along with one additional course in the candidate’s area of expertise within the applied arts
• An active practice of design research and/or creative inquiry
• Ongoing service to the department, College, and profession

Qualifications:

• MFA in Design or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in the design sector
• Proficiency in digital and web applications, particularly Adobe Creative Cloud
• Ability to teach a range of undergraduate design-focused courses

• Evidence of quality of teaching (e.g. student evaluation results)
• Examples of your design/artwork
• Examples of student work (if available)
• Official transcripts

Review of materials begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Pre-interviews will be scheduled online. Three letters of reference will be due at the point of the preliminary interview.
