SUMMARY:

  The role plays a key role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment across Rochester Regional Health facilities. Responsibilities include patrolling assigned areas, monitoring facility access, assisting patients and visitors, and responding to both routine and emergency situations. Officers are expected to deter aggression, enforce safety protocols, and communicate effectively with diverse populations. This position requires professionalism under pressure and a strong commitment to customer service and public safety.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Safety & Security Oversight – Maintain a visible presence, monitor facility access, patrol premises, and respond to emergencies, incidents, and unsafe conditions to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors.

• Law Enforcement Authority – Exercise Peace Officer powers under NYS law, including detention, arrest, searches/seizures, evidence protection, and secure transport of individuals under legal or protective custody.

• Crisis & Incident Response – Address criminal behavior, behavioral health crises, disturbances, and violent situations with professionalism, utilizing defensive tools and de-escalation techniques as permitted by law and training.

• Compliance & Training – Adhere to NYS regulatory standards, complete all required DCJS training and annual certifications, and maintain eligibility for armed security duties, including firearm proficiency and safe handling.

• Professionalism & Public Relations – Provide courteous, respectful interactions, demonstrate strong communication and customer service skills, and uphold RRH’s image through professional appearance and conduct.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent

• 6 months experience in Law Enforcement, Corrections, Military, or Security

• Eligible to be designated as a Peace Officer by Rochester Regional Health and eligible to be registered with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) as a Peace Officer

• Valid NYS Driver’s License.

• Must have a valid NYS Pistol Permit. (Within 18 months of successful completion of the Peace officer Academy)

• NYS Security Guard Act License (OR) Registered as a Police or Peace Officer in NYS and required to obtain NYS Security Guard Act License within 90 days of hire

 

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong interest in safety and security, public safety, or law enforcement.

• Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused attitude.

• Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in high-stress or emergency situations.

• Demonstrated interest in security, safety, or law enforcement

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
