The Opportunity:

Sephora is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Manager of Technology to join our dynamic retail organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving architecture decisions across a wide range of retail systems, including client-telling, point of sale (POS), data management, reporting, and more. The Manager, Technology will play a crucial role in shaping our technology landscape, ensuring that our retail systems are designed and developed in alignment with industry best practices and cutting-edge architectural principles. The ideal candidate should possess an in-depth understanding of software architecture, architecture patterns, microservices, cloud-based architectures, and building distributed applications. Additionally, proficiency in Oracle Retail Applications (XCenter, XOffice, etc.), event-based programming, and agile development methodologies is essential.

 

Responsibilities:

Technology Engineering Leadership:

 

  • Lead and guide the technology architecture team in defining and implementing scalable, secure, and efficient architecture solutions for various retail systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into robust architectural designs.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, and apply them to enhance the company's technology landscape.

Retail Systems Design and Development:

  • Develop comprehensive and detailed architectural blueprints for retail systems, including client-telling, POS, data management, reporting, etc.
  • Champion the use of microservices and cloud-based architectures to create scalable, flexible, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Drive the development of distributed applications, ensuring seamless integration between different retail systems.

Expertise in Oracle Retail Applications:

  • Utilize your in-depth knowledge of Oracle Retail Applications, such as XCenter and XOffice, to optimize system performance and facilitate seamless integration.

Event-Based Programming and Architecture:

  • Apply expertise in event-based programming and architecture to design real-time, event-driven systems for retail processes and workflows.

Engineering Best Practices:

  • Promote engineering excellence by setting and enforcing coding standards, code reviews, and architectural reviews.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and adherence to industry-standard engineering practices.

Agile Development Methodologies:

  • Lead the technology team in adopting and practicing Agile methodologies to drive iterative development, regular feedback, and timely delivery of retail system enhancements.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product management, business stakeholders, and IT operations, to ensure alignment of technology solutions with business needs.
  • Present technical concepts and solutions in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.

 

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Technology Manager or in a similar leadership role within the retail domain.
  • Extensive knowledge of software architecture, architecture patterns, microservices, and cloud-based architectures.
  • Hands-on experience in designing and building distributed applications.
  • Strong expertise in Oracle Retail Applications (XCenter, XOffice, etc.) and their integration within retail ecosystems.
  • Proficiency in event-based programming and architecture.
  • In-depth understanding of engineering practices and Agile development methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
