Description

Position Overview:

FR Conversions is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Automotive Applications Engineer to support product development, customization, and integration of mobility solutions into OEM vehicles. This role bridges engineering design with fabrication, ensuring our vehicle conversions meet safety, compliance, and performance standards. The ideal candidate works well in a fast-paced environment and is comfortable with hands-on fabrication and problem-solving.

This is a hands-on engineering role in a vertically integrated, fast-growing manufacturing environment, where you’ll see your designs move from concept to prototype to production right inside our facility. Key Responsibilities:

 

Engineering & Product Development

  • Translate customer requirements and OEM specifications into practical product applications.
  • Support prototype and pilot builds, ensuring designs are manufacturable and aligned with FR standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in product design, tooling, and processes.

 

Applications & Integration

  • Collaborate with R&D Engineers, Production teams, and external partners to integrate FR-designed mobility solutions into vehicle platforms.
  • Evaluate physical components and provide accurate documentation, drawings, and specifications.
  • Provide technical support for Sales, Marketing, and Product Management on vehicle applications and product capabilities.

 

Fabrication & Welding

  • Perform clean and dirty welding tasks directly on vehicles and fabricated parts for prototypes, fitment testing, and production validation.
  • Read and interpret welding symbols, fabrication drawings, and assembly schematics to execute accurate welds on steel, aluminum, and other automotive materials.
  • Collaborate with Pre-Production and Fabrication teams to ensure weld quality, structural integrity, and manufacturability of engineered solutions.
  • Provide feedback on fixture design, weld process improvements, and part integration methods.

 

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure designs and integrations comply with FMVSS/NHTSA, ADA, and company safety standards.
  • Participate in testing and validation of welded parts, systems, and assemblies to verify performance and durability.
  • Document engineering changes, ensuring accuracy in drawings, BOMs, and specifications.
