You will play a central role in realizing the dsm-firmenich innovation and growth strategy via investments in and collaboration with innovative startups. As you progress in the role, you will be managing several investments with longer term business impact. You are adept at building and maintaining extensive external and internal networks in anticipation of current and future dsm-firmenich business needs. In the deals you close, you will join as a Board Member to support the startups for success in creating value, including when they exit.

Your key responsibilities
- Create multiple strategic anchor points for selected dsm-firmenich focus areas to develop and accelerate the ability to move into new areas and create multiple future options to acquire, partner or sell, to have a positive impact on dsm-firmenich, accelerating the speed of growth and innovation
- Connect and align with internal stakeholders (Business Group Leadership Teams) to identify synergies between potential investments and the business group and collaborate to understand the future strategy of the business
- Lead multidisciplinary due diligence teams to assess, negotiate and close investment deals
- Develop term sheets when acting as lead investor, and/or participate in the development of a syndicated term sheet with other Venture Capital/Corporate Venture Capital firms and leading family offices as co-investors
- Work successfully within global multinational and startup environments
- Extend dsm-firmenich knowledge of the future nutrition, health, taste and perfumery & beauty markets across the entire value chain
- Negotiate and close multiple deals in your first year
The preferred geography for this position is the Midwest or West Coast of the US. Individual pay offered will be based on the applicant’s job-related skills, experience, relevant education and training. This position is also eligible for bonuses and benefits, which are not included in the pay scale provided. Salary $180,100-$225,200.

You bring
- Minimum 8 years of venture capital/corporate venture capital and/or startup leadership experience required with investments, board positions, divestments in fields with relevant investment experience in the nutrition, health and wellness and/or perfumery/beauty related space
- A strong network that includes startups, venture firms, academia and other corporate entities and an ability to manage a subset of Venturing Portfolio
- Proven ability to work within global companies as well as in start-up environments and recognized as an expert investor and savvy value adding board member in (external) Venture Capital/startup ecosystem
- Integrated/deep understanding of nutrition/health & wellness markets, business, the entire value chain (to end user), trends and timing, financials and sufficient technical, IP, legal understanding as a basis to negotiate and close complex investments and to support companies after investment
- Acceptance and respect at a board level, both internally and externally. As a (minority) shareholder / board member able to act on and solve critical issues. Strong insights with the capability to challenge and influence and develop
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred
