ROLE OVERVIEW

Benchling has historically focused on building tools to help biotech companies identify candidate products. We're now shifting our focus toward helping our customers manage the processes involved in "productionizing" candidate biotech products. An essential part of this "productionizing" is the design and execution of manufacturing processes for candidate products. That's where the Forms and Recipes teams come in.

The Forms and Recipes teams help scientists design and execute their manufacturing processes on Benchling. The Recipes team exists to make Benchling an excellent tool for creating different ways to manufacture biotech products. They do this by introducing new "scientifically aware" data models and building new user experiences to help scientists design their manufacturing processes. With these processes in place, the Forms team provides a platform & user experiences to help lab operators -- people who execute manufacturing processes -- more efficiently do their work.

These are new teams at Benchling, so we're excited to talk to experienced engineering managers with a track record of successfully starting & leading several new teams.

YOUR IMPACT

• Recruit, develop, and lead a team of exceptional product engineers.
• Partner closely with product and design to define roadmap and long-term product strategy.
• Hold an unreasonably high bar for product quality as the teams execute their work.
• Partner closely with engineers on each team to ensure that we make excellent technical decisions as we lay the foundations for these new products.
• Meet with customers to understand their science & what they need from Benchling.
• Contribute to engineering-wide organizational improvements as part of the management team.

ABOUT YOU

• 5+ years of experience as an engineering manager.
• Some experience managing multiple teams simultaneously.
• Grown high-trajectory, early-to-mid-career engineers into leaders with company-wide impact.
• Experience (and enjoy!) working directly with customers to inform your team's roadmap.
• A track record of working with cross-functional partners in product, design, sales, and marketing.
• Strong writing skills.
• Interest in biotech!
