The Tomorrow.io Unified Precipitation (UP) team is a mixture of scientists and engineers committed to generating industry-leading, real-time precipitation estimates and short-range forecasts. The UP team is at the core of Tomorrow.io's weather and climate intelligence platform. Our products leverage station, radar, satellite, and model data alongside advancements in machine learning to provide accurate real-time weather condition updates. The key to delivering these product advancements to our customers on-time and reliably is our data and software engineering pipeline.
We are looking for a Project Manager who will coordinate the projects program management within the weather science department. This role is supportive to the senior management of the program; and it spans from the management of individual projects through program prioritization across a matrixed organization. What You'll Be Doing as a Scientific Project Manager:
- Support management by maintaining a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress.The goal of these plans is to ensure that all projects deliverables are delivered on-time, within scope, and within budget
- Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders to determine technical feasibility and timelines
- Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniques, specifically to analyze the successful completion of short- and long-term goals
- Lead biweekly sprint planning meetings and track sprint progress
- Facilitate and support scrum events such as sprint review, sprint retrospective
- Report status and escalate risks/gaps to management as needed
- Perform risk management to help minimize project risks
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
- Assist in process definitions and improvement
- Contribute to the advancement of Agile practices within the organization
- Support each of the managers with documentation, Jira hygiene, presentation development/editing, scheduling cross-functional meetings, and other similar administrative tasks
What You Bring:
- 2+ experience in project management methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, and sprint planning with understanding of one or more project management frameworks
- Knowledge of Scrum techniques (such as story point estimation, definition of done, backlog refinement)
- Advanced experience with Jira and Confluence
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, teamwork, and negotiation skills
- Ability to help quickly make important collaborative decisions
- Ability to delegate effectively
- Problem-solving and time management skills
Bonus points:
- Great educational background, preferably in a field related to earth science and weather specifically
- PMP / PRINCE II/ CSM certification is a plus
- Solid technical background with understanding or hands-on experience in software development and web technologies
- Very strong working knowledge of Google sheets and Google docs
- Advanced experience with Jira dashboards, reporting, automation, workflows, burndown charts etc.
