The Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins is seeking a Senior HVAC Specialist. As a crucial member of our facilities team, this position will diagnose, repair, and perform comprehensive preventive maintenance on all HVAC systems at the Wyoming State Penitentiary. Additionally, you will support the facility's overall operations by executing general preventive maintenance and facility repairs as needed. The Wyoming Department of Corrections is committed to public safety and high correctional standards, as well as a safe, supportive working environment for our employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.


  • Installs, adjusts, troubleshoots, and maintains electrical, direct digital controls, and electronic/pneumatic/mechanical temperature control devices on HVAC/R systems.
  • Conducts routine and preventive maintenance on HVAC/R equipment.
  • Provides oversight on HVAC/R projects performed by outside contractors for code compliance, payments, design, and installation.
  • Performs seasonal startup and shutdown of heating and air-conditioning plants and other related equipment.
  • Reads and interprets schematic drawings and diagrams that pertain to HVAC systems.
  • Operates and maintains the facility's multiple boiler rooms & appurtenances in a safe & efficient manner.
  • Acts as an escort for contracted vendors on HVAC or other general maintenance issues.
  • Maintains records through the AIM maintenance management software and orders spare parts.
  • Plumbing includes the unplugging of sinks, toilets, and drains, and repairing or replacing the defective parts associated with the above.
