Lab Director of Operations

LabCorp is seeking a visionary and operations-driven Lab Director to lead our laboratory team at Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin, Texas . This role focuses on overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and driving quality and efficiency. Position Summary:

The Lab Director oversees all operational aspects of the laboratory, with a focus on productivity, quality assurance, compliance, and cost-effectiveness. This leadership role ensures the laboratory operates at peak performance to support client needs and regulatory standards.

Schedule: Monday – Friday 8am -4:30pm, Flexibility with schedule to ensure effective business support.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Strategic Leadership:
  • Plan, organize, and direct laboratory operations to meet client requirements and achieve organizational goals.
  • Develop and implement productivity benchmarks, cost-control measures, and strategic initiatives for operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate and enhance laboratory workflows, ensuring alignment with compliance and quality standards.
• Compliance and Quality Assurance:
  • Ensure strict adherence to CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and other applicable regulatory and safety standards.
  • Oversee quality control and quality assurance programs, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
  • Maintain and update standard operating procedures to reflect best practices and regulatory compliance.
• Operational Oversight:
  • Monitor laboratory performance, including the physical environment, equipment needs, and supply chain management.
  • Collaborate with technical staff to assess and implement new equipment and automation technologies.
  • Manage the calibration and verification of assays and ensure processes align with quality and operational goals.
• Team Development:
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of supervisors and lead technologists through coaching, training, and performance management.
  • Conduct annual competency reviews to ensure staff meet performance expectations and compliance requirements.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation within the laboratory team.
• Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Act as a primary liaison between the laboratory and client leadership, ensuring clear communication and alignment with expectations.
  • Maintain strong customer-focused relationships, resolving operational issues proactively and effectively.

Qualifications:

• Educational Background:
  • Master’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or a related life science with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in a related life science with a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Certifications:
  • ASCP, AMT, or equivalent laboratory certification required.
• Experience and Skills:
  • Proven experience in high-volume, hospital-based laboratory settings.
  • Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and state-specific regulations.
  • Familiarity with laboratory QA processes, calibration, and verification of assays.
  • Proficient in Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated success in coaching and developing both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills with a focus on problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Experience managing laboratory operations across multiple locations preferred.
