What will the Associate Counsel, Insurance Compliance do?

We are seeking an Associate Counsel to join our growing legal team. This role is ideal for a attorney with approximately five years of law firm experience and a background in the insurance industry. You will play a key role in supporting our procurement program, managing contracts, and ensuring compliance with evolving insurance regulations. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, brings sharp attention to detail, and enjoys collaborating across teams to solve complex legal and business challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage Coterie’s Procurement Program, including vendor review, contract negotiations, and subsequent onboarding.
  • Build and maintain a proactive monitoring program for insurance legislation and regulatory developments, including establishing reliable sources, tracking and analyzing changes, and delivering clear reporting to business and compliance stakeholders.
  • Conduct contract review and redlining for vendor, customer, and partner agreements.
  • Implement, maintain and improve the contract management system to ensure accuracy, compliance, and accessibility.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to negotiate standard terms and resolve contractual issues efficiently.
  • Draft, review, and maintain templates, playbooks, and guidance documents to streamline contract processes.
  • Collaborate with compliance, risk, and business teams to identify and mitigate contractual risks.
  • Provide legal support for audits and diligence requests, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Assist in developing and delivering training sessions for internal stakeholders on contract and legal processes.
  • Support special projects and strategic initiatives within the Compliance & Legal team, particularly those involving insurance and regulatory considerations.

What we are looking for:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience practicing law, preferably in a corporate or regulatory setting.
  • Active licensure in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar
  • Prior experience within the insurance industry, with a strong understanding of insurance-related laws, regulations and compliance requirements.

Our interview process:

Our hiring process generally consists of 4 phases. The goal is to provide an opportunity for us to learn more about our candidates while allowing them to get to know us as well!

  • Phase 1: Qualified candidates will first meet with a member of our People Operations team for a phone interview.  This discussion is a high-level conversation to understand more about your background and interests and for us to share more about Coterie and the position.
  • Phase 2: Selected candidates will be invited to meet with our Hiring Manager for a 2nd interview via Teams video. This interview is designed to be more detail oriented and allows you to learn more about the role and expected to be 30 minutes in length.
  • Phase 3: Top candidates will be invited to participate in an experiential exercise interview. This will include a project provided in advance along with a 1-hour interview conducted with our hiring manager.
  • Phase 4: Final candidates will receive an invite to our final interview series. This series will include 1:1 interviews with additional team members. The final series is roughly 1-2 hours in total.
