Overview

We are seeking an experienced Director of Emergency Services (ED) to lead operations in a high-volume, Level I Trauma emergency department. With over 25 main ED beds, rapid care spaces, a busy free-standing ED averaging 100+ daily visits, and another location under development, this role provides the opportunity to oversee one of the busiest emergency care networks in the region. This is a high-impact leadership position offering competitive pay, annual incentives, and relocation assistance in Kansas City, MO.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for emergency services across main and free-standing EDs.

  • Oversee ~115 FTEs with direct accountability for staffing, scheduling, and labor management.

  • Ensure patient-centered, evidence-based care and compliance with all regulatory standards.

  • Drive continuous improvement in quality, safety, and patient throughput.

  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing leaders, and administrators to optimize service delivery.

  • Monitor and manage departmental budgets, resources, and performance metrics.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, staff engagement, and service excellence.

Qualifications

Required

  • 2+ years of recent acute care Director-level ED leadership (may consider strong managers running day-to-day operations at Director level)

  • Proven track record of delivering strong ED metrics and performance outcomes

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Nursing strongly preferred)

  • Active RN license (Missouri or Compact state)

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field

  • National certification (CEN, CCRN, or equivalent)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $135,000 – $180,000/year (commensurate with experience)

  • Annual performance bonus: 17.5% – 26.25% of salary
