Nature and Scope:
Provide complete design/analytical engineering for major projects ' on specific engine
programs including planning, scheduling and coordination of all related activities. Perform engineering duties on new or varied problems where objectives are stated and limited design or development data exists. Work typically involves conventional engineering practices but may include a variety of complex features.
Knowledge:
A thorough knowledge of standard engineering principles. Familiarity with Solar/Turbomachine as well as commercial and military specifications. In-depth understanding of manufacturing, quality control, design and analysis techniques as related to gas turbine engines or heat recovery equipment. Good verbal and written communication skills. Able to direct other engineers.
Problem Complexity Assignments cover a wide range of design Problems including cycle analysis, material compressor/turbine life analysis. Must verify methods of analysis. manufacturing selection, bearing and seal design, rotor dynamics, rotor containment, heat transfer and producibility and specify test parameters necessary to meet product specification requirements.
Work Direction and Latitude Independently investigates, analyzes. and develops solutions to assigned
project. Plans and schedules tasks with supervisory concurrence. Provides technical guidance to subordinates. Has authority to make routine design changes.
Project/Program Responsibility Responsible for coordinating, developing, designing, analyzing and meeting defined objectives on assigned projects. May be technical leader on assignment with responsibility for monitoring work of others.
Liaison: Frequent contacts with engineers, supervisors, manufacturing. quality control and research personnel to obtain information and give technical advice and direction related to assigned projects. Occasional contacts with suppliers, purchasing and marketing personnel, and customers with regard to technical issues.
Business contributions Provides product designs which meet customer requirements and company objectives or producibility, cost and reliability
Principal Accountabilities:
· Develops welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment to problems involving fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles: Conducts research and development investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures, improve existing, develop new welding equipment, develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures, discover new patterns of welding phenomena, or to correlate and substantiate hypotheses.
· Conducts training to technical and operational personnel on joining, applicable code or customer specifications, weld inspection criteria and other job specific requirements.
· Establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post-heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints, and complex post-heating requirements.
· Evaluates new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes.
· May direct and coordinate technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure workers' compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards; in testing welds for conformance with national code requirements; or testing welding personnel for certification.
· Contacts personnel of other agencies, engineering personnel, or clients to exchange ideas, information, or offer technical advice concerning welding matters.
· Performs experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials.
· Strong knowledge on applicable Welding Codes such as AWS, API and ASME.
