The Payroll Accountant will be a key contributor to the accurate and timely processing of payroll within a dynamic government contracting environment. This role demands a mid-level understanding of complex payroll regulations, particularly those related to government contracts, including prevailing wage requirements and multi-state taxation. The Payroll Accountant will handle mid-level payroll tasks, provide mid-level payroll guidance, and ensure strict compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Process off-cycle checks (e.g., terminations) efficiently and accurately, ensuring timely payments.
Review termination reports, calculate, and process final pay in strict adherence to state regulations. Maintain accurate employee records by reviewing and resolving address changes.
Assist in the payroll and labor distribution reconciliation processes to ensure accurate cost allocation. Manage and resolve payroll-related tickets promptly, ensuring customer satisfaction.
Accurately process and manage garnishments, levies, and court-ordered deductions.
Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements for enhanced efficiency, accuracy, and compliance. Assist in the testing and implementation of new payroll systems and technologies. Develop and maintain comprehensive payroll documentation and procedures.
Interpret and apply company payroll policies (time, leave, etc.) to ensure accurate processing and resolve related issues.
Manage diverse payroll records, process payroll inputs, and audit tax regulations and reciprocity rules. Resolve complex timekeeping discrepancies and provide guidance on timekeeping policies.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field and at least 2 or more years of progressive payroll experience, with significant experience in a government contracting environment.
Proven experience with multi-state payroll processing and tax compliance.
Proficiency in payroll software and timekeeping systems (e.g., Deltek Costpoint and Workday).
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat.
