Position Overview

The Department of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts in the College of Arts and Sciences at the Ohio State University seeks a full-time Senior Lecturer in Film and Video Production. The prospective hire will lead undergraduate film and video production classes focusing on visual storytelling techniques, practical production skills, screenwriting, and an exploration of the critical and historical aspects of the medium. This position will make core contributions to the Moving-Image Production (MIP) program. The MIP program is an interdisciplinary program that covers areas of Narrative, Documentary, Experimental, and Animation production. 

Performance Objectives

  • Conduct lectures on foundational and advanced topics in cinema production.  
  • Lead discussions and activities exploring the critical, historical, and political dimensions of filmmaking, examining its evolution and impact on society.
  • Provide hands-on instruction in practical production skills, including story development, pre-production, directing, cinematography, editing, and sound design.
  • Lead group critiques to provide critical feedback on cinematography, editing, lighting, sound, and other production aspects of students' work.
  • Offer guidance and mentorship to students, assisting them in developing their creative vision and technical skills in narrative filmmaking.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Moving-Image Production program and the Department of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts to enhance the overall learning experience for students.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required: Master of Fine Arts degree in film production or equivalent degree. Five years of teaching experience in a higher education setting. Knowledge of film/video production equipment and Adobe Creative Cloud.
