Microsoft Tax & Customs Department is responsible for Worldwide Tax & Customs Reporting, Compliance, and Planning, including the technology and process & innovation functions to support the coordination of the worldwide tax and Customs functions. There are four major functions within the Tax and Customs Department. 1) Tax Reporting and Transfer Pricing 2) Customs, Tax Process & Innovation, 3) Corporate Tax Planning & Controversies, Indirect Tax & Global Business Initiatives 4) Tax & Customs Controllership, Policy and Benefits Taxation
This position, Group Manager, Tax Planning, reports to the Senior Director, Corporate Tax Planning. The Group Manager is expected to work collaboratively with other members of the Tax Department to provide tax technical review, support, and documentation to enhance Tax Department technical rigor and efficiency, and ultimately drive shareholder value. In addition, as a member of the Corporate Tax Planning team, the Group Manager will support the structuring of acquisitions, divestitures, and intercompany transactions.
Responsibilities
- Serve as international tax technical resource for Corporate Tax Planning, Tax Reporting, and Tax Controversy teams.
- Develop, conclude, and document cross-border income tax positions identified by the Corporate Tax Planning and Tax Reporting teams.
- Build, develop and maintain a deep network of expert advisors and consultants.
- Keep up to date with US/global tax legislation, practice, and Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) developments.
- Effectively research and analyze tax statues, regulations, case law, and other guidance, both US and international.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Tax, Law, or related field AND 8+ years tax compliance, tax accounting, tax audit management or tax advisory experience
- OR Advanced Degree (e.g., Master's in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Taxation or related field; J.D.; LL.M. in Taxation) AND 7+ years tax compliance, tax accounting, tax audit management or tax advisory experience
- OR equivalent experience.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Tax, Law, or related field AND 11+ years tax compliance, tax accounting, tax audit management or tax advisory experience
- OR Advanced Degree (e.g., Master's in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Taxation or related field; J.D.; LL.M. in Taxation) AND 10+ years tax compliance, tax accounting, tax audit management or tax advisory experience
- OR equivalent experience.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Juris Doctor (JD), Master of Laws (LLM), or similar certification.
Tax IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $115,000 - $200,300 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $146,200 - $219,200 per year.
