The Opportunity:

The UCF IT department within Facilities and Business Operations is seeking to hire a Systems Engineer IV – AI Solutions Engineer. This role is responsible for serving as part of the university’s AI Center of Excellence, embedding with administrative teams to design, implement, and promote AI-enabled process automations and workflows. The position exists to deliver automation solutions, establish repeatable patterns, and provide training for staff on the responsible adoption of AI, ensuring alignment with university governance and compliance standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with members of the AI Center of Excellence and administrative teams to identify and design high-impact automation opportunities that deliver measurable business value.

  • Build, maintain, and enhance CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and container orchestration to support AI, automation, and service integrations.

  • Deploy, monitor, and manage back-end services (e.g., API Gateways, model-serving endpoints), ensuring high availability, scalability, and observability.

  • Serve as an AI evangelist and trainer by running workshops, office hours, and presentations to build departmental understanding, adoption, and trust in AI/automation tools.

  • Enforce governance, privacy, and security standards across AI deployments, ensuring compliance with data policies, risk controls, and responsible AI guardrails.

  • Document system architectures, runbooks, and disaster recovery plans, while collaborating with platform teams to hand off maintainable solutions and patterns.

  • Manage authentication, authorization, and identity integration (e.g., Entra ID, OAuth/OIDC, role-based access) across AI and automation endpoints.

  • Configure and monitor usage tracking, budgeting, and reporting for AI services to support cost transparency and departmental chargeback models.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience; or High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 9 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ year experience designing, deploying, and managing automation or AI-enabled solutions in enterprise environments.

  • 2+ years hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker).

  • Proficiency in deploying and managing back-end services such as APIs, gateways, or model-serving endpoints.

  • Strong understanding of governance, privacy, and security practices for data and AI systems.

  • Familiarity with authentication, authorization, and identity management tools (e.g., Entra ID, OAuth/OIDC, role-based access).

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to train and support cross-functional teams.

  • Background in monitoring, observability, and high-availability design for cloud-based or hybrid systems.

  • Familiarity with Azure-based AI/ML services, usage tracking, and cost management tools.

  • Proven ability to document architectures, runbooks, and disaster recovery plans for enterprise systems.

  • Knowledge of responsible AI frameworks, compliance considerations, and risk control strategies.

  • Prior experience supporting automation or AI solutions in higher education or similarly complex organizations.

  • Relevant professional certifications in AI and cloud technologies, such as Microsoft Azure AI Engineer Associate (AZ-102) or Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104), demonstrating expertise in AI solution deployment, management, and cloud-based infrastructure.
