The Choice Program at UMBC's The Shriver Center provides mentoring and advocacy services to young people -primarily Black and Latinx -throughout Central Maryland. Choice utilizes a community-based, family-centered approach to promote quality outcomes for young people and families. We engage in a collaborative process of service: where young people set goals for themselves and are held accountable by supportive adults along the way. Our approach to youth development is grounded in applied critical race theory and culturally responsive, trauma-informed, restorative practices. The Choice program strives to be an anti-racist organization grounded in several core values: holistic development, the belief in humans, dismantling hierarchies, and youth-centeredness.
Position Overview:The Manager of Personnel & Staffing oversees the recruitment, retention, learning and restorative practices of the Choice Program at UMBC's Shriver Center. This position collaborates with others to ensure that the organization's policies, practices and programs align with established values.

Telework:A hybrid telework schedule may be available.
Responsibilities:- Develop, implement, improve, and assess strategies for recruitment, hiring and retention.
- Lead efforts to strengthen and enhance a workplace culture that promotes equity, well-being and learning.
- Develop, implement, improve, and assess performance management practices: rooted in high expectations, accountability, and restorative processes.
- Supervise members of the personnel and staffing team, including 3 FTEs and up to 12 AmeriCorps members.
- Lead compliance efforts in keeping with UMBC and AmeriCorps policies.
- Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, accurate personnel administration, site visits and audits.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
- Two years of supervisory/administrative experience.
- Two years of direct service in human services.
- One year of compliance experience.
- Driver's license and use of a vehicle with current registration and insurance.
Note: A Master's Degree in an accredited graduate program may be substituted for two years of required experience. 15 graduate credits will be considered equal to one year of full time experience.
Preferred Qualifications:- Two years of leadership in an organization committed to equity and inclusion.
- One year of service/employment in an AmeriCorps organization.
- Three years of supervisory/administrative experience.
- Three years of direct service in human services.
A background check will be required.
