Description
The Stony Brook Department of Family, Population and Preventive Medicine along with the Stony Brook Cancer Center is looking for a translational researcher in community engagement and health. The candidate must have research experience in the area of cancer, in working and integrating across disciplines, optimally between basic and clinical, and have a focus on identifying the needs of the community and developing research aimed at meeting those needs for people with cancer or at risk for such.
The successful candidate will develop, establish and lead multi-disciplinary research programs in collaboration with community representatives and with basic, clinical and population science researchers. They will identify the unique needs of the community served by the Stony Brook Cancer Center and will work with various members and stakeholders across that community. They will have the ability to serve as bridge between the community and researchers within the Department of Family, Population and Preventive Medicine and Stony Brook Cancer Center, and to use that bridge to both inform research direction as well as to apply research to meet community needs. Candidates with the ability to form collaborative engagements with investigators in established Cancer Center Research Programs with strengths in environmental and behavioral factors driving carcinogenesis and progression, in metabolomics, in imaging and in bioinformatics and artificial intelligence are particularly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment under new cancer center and university leadership, will be provided generous support and will join unique Research Programs. They will be expected to acquire and lead NIH level supported research programs, to be or to become recognized leaders in the field, and to engage in community-based research activities that strive to reduce the burden of cancer.
Applicants must themselves be accomplished, with a record of successful mentorship and teaching, all commensurate with rank. The successful candidate should hold a PhD, MD, MD/PhD or equivalent.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
MD or PhD (or foreign equivalent) in basic cancer biology, public health, translational research and/or related disciplines. Research experience in cancer centric interdisciplinary research relevant to community health. Mentorship and teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a PI in federal, foundation or institutional grants in cancer, with those from NCI being of particular interest. Experience in prospective clinical trials related to cancer.

Tenure/Non-Tenure Track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. To qualify for tenure and/or a senior faculty appointment, the candidate must meet the criteria established by the School of Medicine (School of Medicine's Criteria for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure).
