Senior Systems Engineer (Linux)

 What does a Successful Senior Systems Engineer (Linux) do at Fiserv

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Systems Engineer (Linux) to join our IT team who will be responsible for managing and optimizing Linux-based systems to ensure high availability, performance, and security. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in Linux system administration and experience working in a highly complex enterprise environment.

What you will do:

• Install, configure, and maintain Linux-based operating systems and perform regular system updates and patches
• Provide support to IT systems including day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution for all the Linux client/server devices
• Participate in patching compliance, system and performance monitoring, certificate management and automation of systems
• Implement security best practices to protect systems from vulnerabilities and threats
• Implement configuration management tools like Ansible or Puppet to streamline system management while performing automation scripting
• Troubleshoot Linux Servers and Workstations, perform root cause analysis, modifying configurations, diagnosing network and storage issues, scripting, and other tasks as needed
• Manage relationship with clients, ensuring high standards and quality of technical solutions, keeping abreast of latest technology developments
• Work with DevOps teams to integrate systems and databases into the CI/CD pipeline

What you will need to have:

• 6+ years of experience administering/engineering Linux operating systems, including command-line at an enterprise proficiency level
• 3 +years of experience working with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education, military, and work experience

What would be great to have:

• Relevant certifications, such as Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC), Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), or AWS Certified Database - Specialty
• Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and container orchestration tools like Kubernetes
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Shell, Python)
• Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
• Understanding of networking principles
