We have an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineer - Gateway/HLS Smoke Eater Filter to join the team.

The Systems Engineer for the Gateway/HLS Smoke Eater Filter will:

  • Perform systems engineering and integration (SE&I) for developing, manufacturing, testing, and certification flight hardware, including the Smoke Eater Filtration systems for the Lunar Gateway and the Human Landing System (HLS).
  • Provide direction to matrix organizations in the requirements development, design, manufacturing, testing, and certification of the Smoke Eater Filter system.
  • Perform systems engineering functions in coordinating and supporting flight hardware products and systems development phases, such as design, procurement, fabrication, test, data analysis, implementation, certification, and flight/mission delivery.
  • Review essential paperwork and documents for tasks assigned, such as Task Performance Sheets (TPS), Discrepancy Reports (DR), and Detailed Test Procedures (DTP), as needed.
  • Develop testing and certification plans based on the requirements. Develop and/or review verification data packages to ensure the requirements have been met.
  • Plan and execute hardware troubleshooting to investigate mechanical and electrical failures within flight hardware, development or qualification test articles, or test support hardware.
  • Review and evaluate the quantity, quality, and overall adequacy of results and conclusions drawn from accomplishment of engineering tasks.
  • Select and apply engineering techniques and procedures to analyze and evaluate specific problems, data, or other features of the work which are broad in scope and complexity.
  • Work in a team environment and report to the team lead to provide status on progress and issues and for support.
  • Perform job functions based on pre-established guidelines or instructions.
  • Periodic travel may be required to support hardware development and testing.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requisition Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2- 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Basic knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field, such as mechanical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, thermal testing, design software and tools, and office software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines.
  • Must have the ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical systems and work with others in problem solving as part of a team.
  • Must have strong organizational and prioritization skills in order to meet deadlines and the ability to work independently with minimal oversight.

Requisition Preferences:

  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of 2 years of experience.
  • Experience in systems engineering, verification success criteria, and documentation, or requirements tracking of higher level systems.
  • Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, or equivalent Engineering degree.
  • Experience with ECLSS hardware.
  • Experience with JSC organizations, processes, and procedures.
