Job Description:
Graduate Student – Graduate Assistant Chapel Instrumentalist
All positions within Baylor University exist to support the mission of Baylor,
which is to educate men and women for worldwide leadership and service by integrating academic excellence and Christian commitment within a caring community.
PURPOSE
The Graduate Assistant Chapel Instrumentalist will support the Assistant Director of Chapel by accompanying worship on their instrument of expertise (e.g., flute) in at least two services each week, aiding with professional recordings of songs commonly used in chapel worship, assisting with administrative duties via Canvas or PowerPoint, helping with sound setup for the fall, and performing other duties as assigned.

TIME AND COMPENSATION
6 hours per week $13 per hour
CONTEXT
University Chapel Worship exists as worship services that are shaped by a historical understanding of Christian worship and that engage music from various church formats and cultures. Students will have the opportunity to lead in various ways and will hear sermons from local ministers in the Baylor community and beyond. While each session will be informed by its context, the goal is that students will be formed by the routine of worship, gain an appreciation of liturgy, and experience a sense of belonging from communal prayer and worship. The summer graduate assistant will spend most of his or her hours working at the Bobo Spiritual Life Center under the supervision of the senior chapel coordinator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Accompany congregational worship using an instrument of expertise.
- Produce professional recordings of songs commonly used in University Chapel Worship.
- Grade extra credit assignments in Canvas as needed.
- Create PowerPoint slides for University Chapel Worship services.
- Collaborate with Worship Leader GA in producing quality services.
- Complete other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS (May Include):
- Assist in conducting the Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs Class.
- Provide feedback on sound recordings and live mixes for in-person chapels.
- Provide consistent feedback regarding the chapel services that are being planned.

- What would have made this chapel more meaningful?
- Help strengthen Baylor Chapel’s connection to Truett Seminary.
DESIRED SKILLS (May Include):
- Administration and organization.
- Proficiency in at least one musical instrument and music theory.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Some basic knowledge of audiovisual equipment (or ability to get help with such duties).
- Basic competency in Apple Logic Pro recording software.
- Occasionally, job functions may require working outside of normal business hours.
