Evaluates adults, sets short- and long-term goals, determines and implements the most appropriate treatment to meet patient needs. Responsible for leading therapeutic activity groups and promotes leisure, social and vocational skills of adults 18 and above. Responsible for documentation including documenting patient goals evaluations, progress notes and discharge summaries. Assists with maintaining a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment. Effectively utilizes Effectively utilizes crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed. Performs all other duties as assigned.EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING: Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field preferred. Associates degree in Therapeutic Recreation required. State certification with the NCTRCB required. Must have Basic Life Support prior to hiring. Will obtain Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) within 30 days of hire.
WORK EXPERIENCE: One year experience as Activities Therapist preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must possess excellent customer service skills. Must possess ability to problem solve and quickly assess and respond to situations appropriately. Possesses basic knowledge of age specific considerations for the population served. Must possess unrestricted NCI Certification upon completion of training. General computer competency required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires bending, prolonged standing and walking. Must be able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds. Must possess visual and auditory acuity for observation and manual dexterity for computer use and documentation. Position may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material.
