As a Mechanical Engineering Intern (Launch) based at Rocket Lab’s launch site at Mahia Penisula, Hawkes Bay, NZ, you will have the opportunity to work closely with the Launch Operations team to support the completion of schematics, diagrams and P&IDs of the newly refurbished Launch Pad A.
WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO
- As an intern, you will work closely with your mentor and other employees within the department to apply your knowledge and grow your skills both technically and professionally
- Work with a fast-paced group of professionals to apply engineering and industry concepts to solve real challenges
- Attend frequent 1:1’s with mentors and supervisors to facilitate success and learning while providing progress updates
- Have the unique opportunity to work at our launch complex and update the CMMs with up to date data from P&IDs
- Ensure all assets are tagged
- Develop a preventative maintenance plan for critical infrastructure
- Create/update a calibration register for al calibrated equipment and tooling on site
YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience using Solidworks and CAD modelling
- Must be enrolled in a bachelor’s, master's or doctorate degree program in an engineering, physics or math discipline and have at least one semester of school remaining post internship
- Be in good academic standing
- 3+ months of applied engineering experience (internship, laboratory, and personal/team project experience is applicable)
THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE
- Ideally coming from an Aerospace/Aeronautical/Astronautical Engineering, Electrical/Mechanical/Manufacturing or Mechatronic Engineering background.
- Passion/hobby in rocketry and aerospace projects
- Experience with hands-on mechanical engineering
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Able to work full-time, on-site for a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks beginning November 2024.
*Temporary accommodation will be provided for the successful candidate for the duration of the internship, however they will need to supply their own transport to and from site.
