Description
Provides mid-level leadership and directs the business services functions and procedures and ensures compliance with all applicable college, federal and state regulations, and policies. Is responsible for assuming a leadership role to guide accounting personnel in daily tasks, verify financial transactions, assist with audits, and maintain the department procedure manual.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership, supervision, and maintains the colleges accounting system including compilation and monitoring of revenue, expenditures, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cashiering, general ledger.
- Assist with preparation of documents for annual audits.
- Complete general ledger and bank account reconciliations.
- Serves as primary liaison between the Accounting Department and Financial Aid to:
a. process student refunds.
b. reconcile the accounting system with the student information system (Populi).
c. Import data from into the accounting system and ensure data is properly recorded.
- Manages the reconciliation of bank accounts, institutional aid, as well as various general ledger accounts.
- Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of accounting records by adhering to the internal control process.
- Ensure month end close is completed by the established deadlines.
- Manages internal controls related to credit cards.
- Manages the purchasing process.
- Develops and implements procedures to ensure adherence to financial and governmental standards, policies and procedures.
- Assist Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in the preparation of the year-end audit.
- Reviews daily operating summary reports for each day’s activity including inflows and outflows of checks, transfers, and ACH payments.
- Reviews routine journal entries to the general ledger and recommends any corrections to the CFO for review.
- Collaborates with various departments to resolve conflicts, evaluate and makes recommendations on alternative methods and procedures.
- Oversees vault cash and reconciles with staff monthly.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision:
Will supervise the Accounting Department staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, master’s degree (MBA) desirable.
- Minimum of five years accounting experience.
- Excellent customer service, written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with Sage Intacct desirable.
- Experience with Microsoft products, especially Excel required.
- Proven supervisory experience.
- Must be able to interact with others, internally and externally, to exchange information with professional courtesy and the ability to establish rapport with others.
- Knowledge of GAAP, SAGE- Intacct experience.
