About the role

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.

ABOUT THE JOB

Anduril is seeking a skilled Navigation Engineer with strong experience in covariance analysis and a deep understanding of fundamental navigation principles. Expertise in robotics-focused pose localization techniques is a significant advantage. This role emphasizes the design and implementation of Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) while leveraging sensor fusion algorithms and pose estimation methods for precise navigation of maritime vehicles. The ideal candidate will be a proven technical leader who can influence our organization to make the right decisions, demonstrate customer empathy, build trust with partners, mentor teammates, and transform culture within the team.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Analyze mission requirements and constraints across the Maritime product portfolio to determine optimal navigation system architecture
  • Represent the priorities and constraints of the Maritime product portfolio in an Anduril-wide navigation and estimation community of practice
  • Augment core Anduril navigation products to include Maritime-specific capabilities. Continuously integrate with the core product team.
  • Lead our navigation strategy, roadmap and solution architecture
  • Drive evaluation and integration of advanced alternative navigation aiding sources
  • Design, develop, integrate and test inertial navigation systems (INS) for maritime vehicles
  • Develop algorithms for navigation, guidance, and control systems, including extended Kalman filters and other estimation methods using various programming languages
  • Develop advanced sensor fusion algorithms leveraging INS, GNSS, cameras, sonar, and other sensors for highly precise navigation in complex maritime environments
  • Apply covariance analysis techniques to optimize navigation system performance, error modeling, and system uncertainty assessments, and early requirements derivation
  • Adapt and apply real-time pose localization algorithms from robotics to enhance the accuracy and robustness of maritime vehicle navigation where applicable (desired)
  • Architect and improve calibration procedures for sensor suites used in maritime navigation systems
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate navigation solutions into overall maritime systems
  • Conduct rigorous simulation and testing for validation of navigation algorithms and systems performance
  • Leverage and build on Anduril's advanced simulation and GNC infrastructure
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments and research in maritime navigation technologies

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • 8 or more years of experience in Guidance, Navigation & Control engineering or related technical experience
  • Strong knowledge of navigation principles, including inertial navigation and GPS
  • Experience with navigation system design, development and testing on maritime or aerospace systems
  • Deep expertise in Kalman filtering, Extended Kalman filtering, and other estimation techniques
  • Experience with real-time systems and embedded software development is a plus
  • Knowledge of sensor fusion and data integration techniques
  • Demonstrated expertise in covariance analysis methodologies and transfer alignment techniques
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • General knowledge of guidance and flight control systems
  • Experience applying covariance analysis techniques to optimize navigation system performance, error modeling, and system uncertainty assessments, and requirements methods
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Autonomous vehicle navigation experience
  • Adapt and apply real-time pose localization algorithms from robotics to enhance the accuracy and robustness of vehicle navigation where applicable
