The Boeing CompanyBoeing is excited to present an opportunity for a Lead Test Pilot to join our team at Eglin Air Force Base, FL. In this role, you will work alongside a high-performing, cross-functional team focused on developing next-generation, state-of-the-art capabilities for Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) programs, including Air Dominance and Phantom Works, among others.
The primary responsibility of the selected candidate will be to support advanced aircraft development. This involves integrating into multidisciplinary teams aimed at addressing warfighter needs by applying human engineering principles. You will also be responsible for planning and executing ground tests, flight tests, and maintenance test flights for experimental, prototype, and production aircraft. Your tasks will include developing and coordinating flight test plans, procedures, and techniques to achieve qualification or certification while meeting test plan objectives.
In addition, you will write technical and flight reports, contributing to the development and modification of flight manuals and related documentation. Your role will require evaluating data and providing recommendations on operational techniques, aircraft handling characteristics, systems operation, and design enhancements. You will prepare flight test reports that address aircraft engineering and operational challenges, as well as any deficiencies.
You will also assess flight data, including system performance, aircraft handling, and equipment functionality, and participate in aircraft and aircraft system design to recommend changes based on operational considerations. Your responsibilities will include collaborating on marketing, evaluation, and demonstration activities for customers, which will involve conducting familiarization, demonstration, and training flights.
It is crucial to ensure that all flight activities adhere to regulatory standards and company policies and procedures. You will work closely with government representatives and aircraft operational customers to address any issues that may arise.
Please be aware that this position requires proof of an FAA Second Class Medical certificate and the appropriate FAA Airmen certificate before starting.
Restriction: Appropriate regulatory certification and/or license required. Entry into this classification is limited to candidates approved by the enterprise-wide Flight Operations Skills Team.
Position Responsibilities:
Supports engineering of advanced aircraft
Plans and conducts engineering and experimental test flights
Serves as Pilot-In-Command for advanced aircraft
Evaluates aircraft for configuration performance and handling qualities changes
Facilitates the Boeing Safety Management System, including test safety processes
Coordinates with engineering, manufacturing and airworthiness personnel on certification efforts to ensure design integrity
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
Commercial Certificate or FAA ATP with appropriate endorsements or military equivalent
Current FAA Class II medical certificate or the ability to obtain one
1,000 flight hours as Pilot in Command of turbine powered jet aircraft
Test Pilot School (TPS) Graduate
Current and Qualified in the F-15C/E/EX
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Master’s Degree or higher in Engineering
1,500 flight hours in F-15C/E/EX
Experimental flight test experience in 5th Generation Fighter aircraft or 6th Generation Fighter development experience
