Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy, the industry leader in clean energy, is seeking an innovative, dynamic individual to join the Estimating Group within the Engineering & Construction Division. This position is an exciting opportunity to learn all aspects of the renewable energy and power industries.  The successful candidate will be engaged in a team accountable for design, cost, schedule, value engineering, and project optimization.  Estimating is an exciting opportunity leading to not only future estimating opportunities, but also to future opportunities in project management, development, finance, and construction management career paths.  This senior level position will be filled by an individual with experience in engineering, estimating or construction and a passion for personal growh while helping NextEra Energy deliver clean, reliable power to customers. This position is based in our Corporate Campus in Juno Beach, Florida.

 

The Sr. Project Estimator will be a key member of the inventive and vibrant preconstruction estimating team. The ideal candidate has experience in the high-voltage transmission or renewable industries, a highly developed understanding of construction means and methods, an understanding of transmission, wind or solar construction, robust project management skills, and strong leadership qualities. In this role, you will collaborate with cross functional teams involved in project development, planning and execution to develop project estimates and improve estimating tools.

 

Day to day responsibilities include team collaboration on design and schedule assumptions, leading the preparation of estimates, the development of pricing models, and evaluating new technological innovations in the industry.  The candidate will have the opportunity to grow their skillset, expanding their current qualifications as our team estimates various technologies including wind, solar, energy storage, hydrogen, oil and gas infrastructure, transmission lines, substations, and other viable power generating project opportunities .
 

Job Overview

This position develops, quantifies, costs, and provides a complete capital expenditure (CapEx) model for evaluating projects. Employees in this role provide technical guidance, estimating knowledge, market pricing, and staffing considerations during the estimating process.

Job Duties & Responsibilities


•   Prepares capital cost estimates
•   Reviews designs and specifications for cost effectiveness and suggests alternatives, when appropriate
•   Coordinates with other departments, ensuring understanding of project objectives and efficient utilization of resources
•   Reviews layouts, designs and specifications for cost effectiveness and suggests alternatives, when appropriate
•   Remains current with technology and industry evolution, assuring that capital estimates anticipate the correct market conditions
•   Establishes, builds and implements metrics for cost and construction estimate checks
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned
