Description

The School of Music at Baylor University seeks an engaging and collaborative educator who can excel at teaching undergraduate and graduate saxophone students. This full-time, tenure-track appointment will begin August 2025.

Saxophone students enjoy opportunities performing in the Baylor Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band, the Baylor Symphony Orchestra, and in the Wayne Fisher Jazz Program that includes the Baylor Jazz Ensemble, the Concert Jazz Ensemble and combos. The woodwind area prides itself in its chamber music program that is embedded in its weekly schedule. Students perform regularly in saxophone quartets and in reed quintets, coached weekly by faculty members.

Baylor saxophone students have performed at Carnegie Hall as winners of the School of Music’s Semper Pro Musica competition; have won the School’s annual concerto competition twice in recent years, and our alumni play in military bands including the “President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band, regional Air Force bands and Navy Fleet Bands. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate saxophone students
  • Recruit and maintain an outstanding studio of saxophone majors at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Other responsibilities include teaching saxophone methods classes and coaching chamber music
  • Provide service at both the School of Music and University levels
  • Contribute fully to the artistic and intellectual life of Baylor University and the School of Music

RANK AND SALARY

  • Full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor
  • Rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with commensurate professional experience required.
  • Doctorate degree preferred.
  • An exceptional reputation as a performer, significant performance experience, and a clear vision/agenda for future creative activity required.
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching saxophone at the university level preferred.
  • A proven track record for recruiting talented students preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will be confident teaching and performing in a variety of musical styles including classical, jazz, and contemporary music.
