 Class Title: Environmental Specialist II

Base Salary: $35,899.44 - $42,561.48

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a professional position which regulates biomedical waste, public swimming pools/spas, mobile home parks, group care, food hygiene and tanning facilities using appropriate Florida Statutes, Florida Administrative Codes and established policies and procedures. 

The incumbent will serve as the biomedical waste coordinator who interacts with the state program office, provides subject matter content for all thing related to biomedical waste. 

The incumbent will assist in conducting swimming pool inspections and group care inspections where needed and when available. In situations where certification is required the incumbent will seek the assistance of a certified staff person to assist.

The incumbent will also conduct mobile home park inspections and tanning inspections.

Prepares daily activity reports, daily work plans, time sheets, vehicle mileage reports, maintains a daily logbook and other reports as required by the supervisor.

The incumbent to this position is required to perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission of the Seminole County Health. The incumbent in this position is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of chapter 60K-15, Florida Administrative Code. On-call participation.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:. Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: terminology, principles and analytical techniques of the physical or natural science; data collection and analysis principles and procedures. Ability to: collect, evaluate, analyze and interpret scientific or technical data; prepare technical reports; understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental health programs; understand and follow legislative policy direction as established in Florida Statutes; deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner;  work independently; plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; communicate effectively;  establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; utilize problem-solving techniques; use personal computers    

 

Qualifications:

Minimum-

Experience conducting pool inspections or sanitary nuisance complaints

Health department related experience working with rules or regulations

Florida Department of Health is required to work before during and or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelter or performing other emergency duties including but not limited to, response to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster man-made or natural. Willing to work before, during and or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency including working on special needs shelter or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including but not limited to, response to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural
