Reporting directly to the Vice President, DEI Strategy, Insights, and Innovation, the Director of Health Equity Community Outreach and Engagement Programs, Projects, and Initiatives will lead a dedicated team to enhance the American Cancer Society's efforts in reducing disparities in cancer through targeted community outreach and engagement. This role involves strategic leadership, comprehensive management of health equity programs and projects, and development of innovative community-based initiatives. This remote position provides a dynamic work environment and the opportunity to impact health equity across diverse communities significantly.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop, collaborate and execute a comprehensive health equity community outreach and engagement strategy that aligns with ACS's overall health equity goals.
  • Ensure that all programs, projects, and initiatives effectively address the specific needs of diverse communities affected by cancer.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and scale successful initiatives to maximize impact.

Team Management and Development

  • Directly manage the Health Equity Community Outreach and Engagement team, setting clear goals and expectations.
  • Cultivate and maintain an equitable and inclusive team culture through exceptional people management, fostering a sense of belonging, trust, and shared purpose that contributes to outstanding team performance.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship, training, and development opportunities for team members.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive team environment encouraging innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure accountability and alignment of team members.
  • Support management of related budget, forecast, and expense oversight to ensure sustainability.

Program, Project, and Initiative Development, Innovation, and Management

  • Design and launch comprehensive health equity programs aligned with ACS's goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure cohesive integration of health equity elements into existing programs, projects, and initiatives.
  • Continuously evaluate and refine programs, projects, and initiatives based on feedback, results, and evolving health equity best practices.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in implementing health equity programs, projects, and initiatives, ensuring timely delivery and optimizing impact.
  • Identify emerging trends and opportunities in health equity that can be leveraged to develop new outreach programs, projects, and initiatives.
  • Incorporate data-driven insights and stakeholder feedback to continuously refine and enhance health equity offerings.
  • Pilot innovative approaches to community outreach and engagement and measure their effectiveness in improving health outcomes.

Community Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with multi-sectoral leaders, organizations, and other key stakeholders to promote and expand outreach and engagement efforts.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to co-create programs that increase cancer prevention, early detection, and care in underserved populations.
  • Represent ACS at key community events, public speaking engagements, and educational opportunities to raise awareness and support for health equity initiatives.

Strategic Partnerships

  • Drive a health equity partnership strategy that caters to ACS's priority communities.
  • Collaborate with the ACS enterprise to establish and foster existing and new partnerships that align with health equity priorities and ACS' mission, revenue, and talent goals.
  • Cultivate, support, and nourish health equity external collaborations with multi-sectoral partners and stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective community outreach, engagement, and education of diverse communities that advance health equity.
  • Provide oversight of high-profile health equity partner-centric strategies and activations.
