SUMMARY OF THE JOB:

Deaconess of IL is seeking a motivated Summer Intern for their Medical Center location who is ready to apply knowledge of business practices and processes in a fast-paced, real-world environment. The intern will assist in writing reports, conducting research, analyzing data, and making recommendations to improve effectiveness and efficiency. This will be valuable experience for any student pursuing a career in health care.

JOB REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Opportunity for students and new graduates to gain professional work experience in the healthcare industry areas (Technology, Analytics, Finance, HR, Marketing, and Operations).
  • Interns are led and mentored by their direct supervisor.
  • Must be able to complete 8-week paid internship.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to troubleshoot technical problems.
  • Ability to multi-task, self-start, work in a dynamic team environment and work independently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate ideas into clear priorities.
  • Willing to tackle new challenges and develop new skills.
  • Ability to work quickly with a large degree of autonomy.
  • Knowledge of adjacent technologies (e.g., EXCEL, TABLEAU, EPIC, ADP, CCNA, CCNP) or industry recognized certifications.
  • Each intern will deliver a 30-minute presentation reviewing their project, data analysis, conclusions and recommendations.
  • There are no guarantees of employment at the conclusion of the internship.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Currently enrolled in an associate's, bachelor’s or master's degree in a technical field, such as Marketing, Human Resources, Finance, Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Information Technology or a similar field.

N/A

Language Skills

    • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills using appropriate grammar, vocabulary, and word usage.

Mathematical Skills

    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

    • This job requires computer and systems competency in the following areas: enters data; retrieves data; assembles and organizes data, uses and analyzes data, integrates diverse sources of data.
    • The ability to learn and use the provided electronic medical record system within three months of attaining position.
  • Other requirements
    • Intern must be available to complete an 8-week internship at the Medical Center located in Marion, IL. Dates for 2026 will start on or about June 2nd and conclude on or about July 25th.
