Position Summary:
- Provide mechanical engineering solutions for commercial and industrial color measurement instrumentation products.
- Provide mechanical engineering design and support to the Research and Development team for various projects and experiments.
- Interface with the manufacturing and operations teams to transfer designs into production.
The position is HYBRID- based in Lawrenceville. Required in office days are Tuesday and Wednesday.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate within a cross-functional design team.
- Understand and interpret high level requirements to conceptualize and generate mechanical design solutions and specifications that contribute toward our next generation of Spectrophotometers, Colorimeters, and Color Imaging Instruments.
- Participate in design review meetings.
- Utilize SolidWorks 3D CAD modeling software to develop opto-mechanical assemblies.
- Generate 2D engineering drawings and documentation from 3D CAD models.
- Produce 2D electro-mechanical assembly drawings such as PCB outlines and cable/harness assemblies.
- Oversee and troubleshoot technical issues as they may arise.
- Modify designs of existing parts and assemblies whenever applicable.
- Interact with outside suppliers and vendors.
- Remain current with the latest manufacturing technology trends, and their possible value-added impact on Datacolor.
- Prepare test protocols, test reports and perform tests to verify and validate designs and processes.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- 4+ years of mechanical engineering design experience.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience working in a manufacturing-based environment.
- Experience utilizing SolidWorks 3D CAD modeling software.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience generating designs that utilize injection molded plastic, die cast, sheet metal and machined components.
- Understanding of tolerances and their relationships in assemblies
- Knowledge of materials
- Knowledge of heat transfer
- Knowledge of Printed Circuit Board and interconnect technology design
- Knowledge of opto-mechanical (components and sub-systems)
- Experience handling a product development project independently from concept through final prototype stage.
