About the role

Thuma is looking for a Lead Barista to join our lean, fast-growing team and lead our first brick and mortar store opening. Reporting to the store General Manager, this position will play a pivotal role in the seamless functioning and overall success of our flagship store in New York City in SoHo. 
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Lead Barista to be the heart and soul of our cafe experience. As our Lead Thuma Barista, you'll be an integral part of creating a warm, inviting atmosphere, serving exceptional coffee, and providing top-notch customer service and upholding standards within the cafe team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be an extension of the Thuma retail team and create an environment where people like to spend time.  
  • Oversee daily cafe operations, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Lead and mentor a small team of baristas, providing guidance and training.
  • Ensure exceptional coffee quality through proper brewing techniques and recipe adherence.
  • Create and maintain a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Manage inventory, assist in placing orders, and monitoring stock levels.
  • Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and resolve issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with management to optimize cafe efficiency and performance.
  • Uphold Thuma's commitment to ethical business practices, sustainability and 6-star customer service.
  • Have great communication between cafe and retail teams to ensure the cafe is covered and all customers are being assisted in a timely manner. 
  • Develop and implement new coffee offerings and seasonal promotions.

What You’ll Need:

  • Based in NYC
  • You’re a people person and like interacting with others.
  • Previous experience as a Lead Barista or similar role in a high-volume cafe.
  • Extensive knowledge of coffee brewing techniques, espresso preparation, and latte art.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-centric approach.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed.
