The team you’ll be part of

Nokia’s Legal & Compliance organization (L&C) has approximately 300 lawyers, contract managers, compliance specialists and other legal and compliance professionals in around 50 countries. We partner with Nokia’s business teams in executing their strategies and reaching their business objectives in a manner that complies with applicable legal and ethical standards and company policies. Practice areas include supporting commercially Nokia’s four business groups (Mobile Networks, Network Infrastructure, Cloud and Network Networks Services, and Nokia Technologies) in four dedicated legal teams as well as the teams with groupwide responsibilities, namely Ethics & Compliance, Litigation, Corporate Legal, Labor & Employment, Intellectual Property, Strategy & Technology and Mergers & Acquisition Legal.

Role specifics

The Global Head of Labor & Employment Law will be the primary partner to the Chief People Officer (CPO) and her Leadership Team (CPO LT) on labour and employment legal as well as more broadly all legal and compliance matters, working closely with other members of the broader L&C organization. The Global Head of Labor & Employment Law (L&E) will report to Nokia Chief Legal Officer and will be member of L&C Leadership Team as well as the CPO LT.

The individual selected for the role must be able to operate in a decentralized mode of operation including four independent and empowered business groups with the ability to work collaboratively with numerous senior stakeholders, with the capability to instinctively identify those who should be consulted or appraised of significant events or developments. The candidate must be adept at managing workload across many time zones while still maintaining a healthy work-life balance. 

  • Primary business partner to the CPO and CPO LT providing advice and guidance on all L&C matters in close cooperation with the wider L&C team.
  • Responsible for the management of a broad spectrum of high-profile employment matters across the global business environment, providing clear and solution-oriented L&E guidance to senior executives.
  • Plays a significant role in the management of and communication with the EWC and local in country Workers Councils and Unions
  • Identifies best practices with respect to management of a global in-house L&E function and implementing such practices at Nokia.
  • End-to-end coordination of the employment related legal matters arising from reorganizations, restructurings, and corporate transactions.
  • Establish and manage a global network of external law firms specializing in the field of employment law.
  • Create and maintain close relationships with Nokia’s regional legal teams in different countries and coaching them in employment law matters.
  • Lead on defining and implementing the legal strategy for L&E and continuously assess gaps and identify improvements as well as mitigations.
  • Work closely with and be a resource to other members of the L&C team including professionals with special experience in compliance, regulatory, corporate, IPR, and business specific issues.
  • Proactively monitor and ensure compliance with all relevant labor laws and regulations and provide training, updates and information to the broader L&C team and the CPO LT.
  • Represent the company in cooperation with Corporate Affairs and other stakeholders in relevant external forums, such as government authorities, on legal, policy and regulatory.
  • Preferable that the candidates should be legally qualified in at least 1 key Nokia country. Minimum of 12+ years of relevant legal experience.
  • Significant leadership experience in managing people.
