The Florida Department of Health develops policies and plans that support health goals, enforce laws and regulations that protect the health of all residents and visitors, and link people to needed health care services. The Florida Department of Health also provides specialized assistance to pregnant women, infants, and children with special health care needs, regulates health care practitioners, and provides medical disability determinations.

 

Senior Public Health Nutritionist (SPHN)

The incumbent certifies clients. Identifies nutrition risks based on the assessment of the nutrition questionnaire, health data and health history. Focuses on meeting the needs of medically high risk. A valid and current Florida License to practice dietetics is required for this position.

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

• Certifies clients. Identifies nutrition risks based on the assessment of the nutrition questionnaire, health data and health history. Assigns food packages based on nutrition assessment and program criteria. Focuses on meeting the needs of medically high risk.
• Provides breastfeeding education, support, and referrals.
• Collects anthropometric data by conducting height/stature and weight measurements. Performs fingers sticks to assess hemoglobin levels of Women, Infants and Children participants.
• Develops, documents, and implements nutrition care plans based on assessments of nutrition needs and other current health plans, and provides follow up and referral as needed.
