Global Internship Program:
Exciting opportunity to be part of the Labcorp 2025 Global Internship Program as an Anatomical Pathology Lab Assistant in Houston, TX!
In this lab, interns work in a fast paced, production type environment and will be responsible for performing various non-technical tasks within the laboratory. An intern will learn about lab departments and types of testing that occur. About Team:
Labcorp's Houston AP Laboratory consists of dedicated, hardworking, high-performance individuals who analyze thousands of patient specimens each day. This team works in a high-throughput, high volume laboratory providing accurate and timely results. The department provides a range of services for clients including the processing of gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens (pap smears) in the cytology department. As well as processing, grossing and embedding of biopsy specimens in the histology department.
Internship Assignment Summary:
This intern will get an insight on the operations of the anatomic pathology department and will be able to see the whole process of paps, nongyns, and biopsies from receiving to rendering diagnosis. This position is a 12-week position that will predominantly occur on first shift with a work schedule, with duties like the following:
- Fulfill lab assistant or specimen processor duties while supporting the work of technicians, technologists and scientists.
- Learn standard operating procedures for analyzing and storing specimens
- Learn processing, grossing and embedding of biopsy specimens
- Complete meaningful independent projects in assigned area of laboratory
- Work under direct supervision and performs general duties as assigned by the designated department
- Support the lab by performing data entry, loading instruments, performing maintenance on all types of equipment, gathering supplies for testing
- Perform a variety of administrative duties for a designated department including clerical and customer service functions
- Contributes to a cohesive team environment
- Plans individual workload in coordination with team members
Education/Qualifications/Skills:
- Working towards bachelor’s degree in histology or cytotechnology (preferred), or biochemistry, microbiology, biology, or chemistry, and not graduating before November 2025.
- Preferred December 2025 or May 2026 graduates
- Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills; experience with Microsoft Office applications preferred
- Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
- Career goals that align with working in a medical diagnostic, medical toxicology, or anatomical pathology lab as a technologist
- High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in fast paced high-volume environment and while prioritizing and manage multiple tasks
- Comfortability with handling biological specimens such as tissue, cells, blood, urine, stool, serum, or plasma
- Experience delivering multiple projects in an academic or profession
