JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Pennsylvania State University Press, a not-for-profit publisher of scholarly books, journals, and online content in the arts, humanities, and social sciences, is looking for a passionate, experienced, and dedicated Acquisitions Editor who will manage the ongoing development of its Eisenbrauns imprint. Eisenbrauns publishes in a number of academic fields, all related to ancient Near East and biblical studies, including, specifically, Mesopotamian studies, Levantine history and archaeology, Semitic languages and linguistics, and biblical studies.
Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief, the candidate will perform the following duties:
- Expected to acquire 20 to 22 scholarly titles annually, serving as the primary point of contact for projects under consideration for the Eisenbrauns imprint of Penn State University Press.
- Solicit and evaluate book manuscripts, either independently or in conjunction with series editors
- Travel to 4-6 academic conferences per year
- Conduct peer review of manuscripts under consideration, and advise authors on necessary revisions prior to publication
- Compile new book proposals and title budgets
- Present new projects to in-house committees for approval and to the Eisenbrauns Editorial Committee for final approval
- Prepare final manuscripts for production
- Participate in staff meetings about Eisenbrauns titles and general Press operations

- Critical Studies in the Hebrew Bible
- Explorations in Ancient Near Eastern Civilizations
- History, Archaeology, and Culture of the Levant
- Journal of Theological Interpretation Supplements
- Languages of the Ancient Near East
- Linguistic Studies in Ancient West Semitic
- Mesopotamian Civilizations
- Siphrut: Literature and Theology of the Hebrew Bible
Typically requires a Bachelors Degree or higher and 3+ years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An advanced degree in a related field, plus four to six years of experience in scholarly, society, or professional publishing preferred.
