Primary Purpose of Position

The RN will provide infusion services required during Military Treatment Facility (MTF) operations. The RN is responsible for providing clinically competent medical care services within their scope of practice. The RN working at any Defense Health Agency (DHA) site is responsible for safe patient care and ensuring adherence to all Policies and Procedures.

Work Schedule/Duty Hours:  Personnel will work in support of the Obstetrician-Gynecologist, Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, Post Anesthesia Care Unit. Shifts shall be 8 to 10 hours in length. Meal periods will be thirty (30) minutes, depending on the schedule. All scheduling is based on the needs of the government and must be coordinated with the designated supervisor.  

Core Duties:

The list of core duties below is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed, as necessary.

· Clinical Care & Patient Management

• Provide comprehensive nursing care using the nursing process for patients ranging from infants to  geriatrics.
• Monitor and manage patients  undergoing anesthesia (general, regional, local), Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC), or Moderate Sedation.
• Care for critically ill patients, including those with invasive lines, airway adjuncts, and mechanical ventilators.
• Titrate vasoactive medications and respond to life-threatening changes in patient condition.
• Operate specialized equipment  including epidurals, PCA pumps, cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and wound vacs.
• Assist with patient mobility and transfers; lift up to 30 lbs., push occupied wheelchairs/gurneys, and walk up to 500 yards without rest.
• Perform supportive life functions including medication management, suctioning (including tracheostomy), electrolyte and fluid maintenance, and oxygen administration.
• Manage invasive and non-invasive lines and devices (e.g., NG tubes, Foley catheters, colostomy bags, rectal tubes).

· Assessment, Documentation & Education

• Conduct physical assessments and formulate individualized care plans.
• Document care in real time using MHS GENESIS.
• Use MHS GENESIS for evaluating diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, writing orders, and documenting pre- and post-operative evaluations.
• Maintain compliance with AR 25-2 and AR 380-67 for access to sensitive patient data systems.
• Educate patients and families on health conditions and discharge instructions.
• Maintain compliance with documentation standards and privacy regulations including the Privacy Act, 38 USC 5701 and 7332, and FAR Clauses 52.224-1 and 52.224-2.
• Prepare correspondence and summaries for external agencies such as VA, SSA, and insurance companies.

· Team Collaboration & Communication

• Communicate effectively with OB/GYN surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative teams.
• Mentor and support LPNs, CNAs, and ancillary staff.
• Participate in orientation and competency assessments.
• Provide thorough hand-off communication during transitions of care.
• Demonstrate emotional empathy and maintain a respectful, collaborative care environment.

· Compliance, Safety & Quality Improvement

• Adhere to WRNMMC PACU, OB/GYN, and REI protocols.
• Promote safety through infection control and environmental practices.
• Participate in emergency response measures including CPR in the absence of a physician.
• Maintain current certifications in CPR, IV administration, and venipuncture.
• Participate in nursing quality assurance activities including problem identification, evaluation criteria development, action planning, and outcome monitoring.
• Assist in maintenance of the unit environment and ordering supplies and equipment.
• Ensure security of narcotics and controlled substances.
• Ensure quality of care issues are documented and reported appropriately.

· Administrative & Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure all records are returned to the appropriate location as defined by the MTF in a timely      manner.
