PURPOSE:

The Staff Physical Therapist is responsible for the evaluation, planning, directing and administering of physical therapy modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed physician.

DIMENSIONS:

The Staff Physical Therapist works closely with staff of other clinical departments to collaborate on patient care and reports to the Director of Therapy.

ENVIRONMENT: 

Lincoln Community Hospital and Nursing Home is a Critical Access Hospital co-located with Long Term Care Unit. The facility employs 150-200 employees. Outpatient Therapy Services are available in Hugo, Flagler and Limon clinics. The incumbent will responsibilities in all sites. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Administers treatments and physical agents as prescribed by a referring physician in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability. 

2) Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Staff Physical Therapist supervises the Physical Therapy Assistants in the department. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

1) Current state Physical Therapy licensure, graduate of an approved school of Physical Therapy or graduate of accredited college or university with a certificate in Physical Therapy.

2) Current BCLS (CPR) certification.

3) Knowledge of disease processes and related causative factors.

4) Knowledge of benefits and values of rehabilitative medicine.

5) Knowledge of infection control, sterile technique and related impact on rehabilitative medicine practice and equipment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

1) Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.

2) Additional languages preferred.

3) Strong written and verbal skills.

OTHER SKILLS: 

1) Basic computer knowledge. Must be able to complete training on current electronic medical records program. Will be expected to complete all billing and documentation processes as required in each setting in a timely manner.

2) Basic clerical skills, good telephone etiquette and organizational skills.

3) Knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology and physiology.

4) Knowledge of the operation of therapeutic modalities and equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1) Tolerates heavy, physical work with good stamina for length of shift.

2) Tolerate standing for 5 or more hours a day, sitting for 2 or more hours a day and walking for 5 or more hours a day.

3) Tolerate repetitive tasks and motions.

4) Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds with proper body mechanics.

5) Need to distinguish colors, hear alarms and normal speaking voices.

6) Need to have good manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination and clarity of vision.

7) Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions of the position without compromising patient care.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Therapy services are offered in multiple settings: outpatient clinics, hospital, care center and in homes of patients. While environments may vary, each site must allow the employee to deliver all services in a safe manner.
