Pratt & Whitney's Engineering Support to Operations (ESTO) organization is seeking a highly skilled Principal Casting Engineer to serve as the technical representative for the Turbine Airfoil Casting Team (TACT). This role will support turbine airfoil casting suppliers in New Jersey and Michigan, with a primary focus on Michigan. The selected candidate must reside in Michigan to facilitate regular site visits and provide hands-on technical support to suppliers in the region.

What You Will Do:

  • Focus on supporting the airfoil casting tooling qualification process as defined per PW-QA 6078, which is necessary to ensure the quality of P&W's engines.  In addition, support process improvement efforts at casting suppliers and evaluate nonconformance in support of product delivery; Supporting (and occasionally initiating) process improvements at the suppliers, especially when opportunities to address Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) are identified at the finishing suppliers.
  • Technical liaison with the casting suppliers to address Engineering-related issues and escalate to the Engineering team in East Hartford as needed. 
  • Work closely with Procurement, Supplier Quality, and Operations teams to identify opportunities for improvement, especially COPQ.
  • Support TACT’s timely closure of critical tasks through interaction with the casting suppliers.
  • Review and approve Part-Specific Inspection Plans as well as identify and pursue opportunities to improve inspections.
  • Provide casting engineering support for production and engineering investigations.
  • Collaborate with related disciplines to advance technology and improve engineering standard work processes/methods.
  • Ensure proper documentation and communication of results to management and external customers.
  • Provide on-site support at least 3 days per week to suppliers in the Whitehall / Grand Rapids, MI region.
  • Travel up to 10% (Domestic).

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • A Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and 8 years of experience in manufacturing engineering with demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills, or an Advanced degree with 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience with demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills.
  • 2+ years of experience with the production of Nickel Superalloy Investment Castings.
  • U.S. Citizen - U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
  • Provide on-site support at least 3 days per week to suppliers in the Whitehall / Grand Rapids, MI region.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Turbomachinery experience in Airfoil design or manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in SAP, Teamcenter, Unigraphics NX, and classical methods of analysis.
  • Experience with GD&T ASME Y14.5M-1994.
