Job Overview

This role owns the software systems that connect our batteries to our customers and to us.

We are looking for a Founding Software Engineer to design and build the first-generation interface between our battery products, our customers, and our internal teams.

This role owns the architecture and implementation of:

• A local network interface for customers to monitor and control our battery products
• A cloud-based system that ingests data pushed one-way from the field and enables analytics and monitoring for users, vendors and our company

You will work closely with leadership, hardware, firmware, and product teams to define what the product should be, not just how it’s implemented. This is a role for someone who enjoys scoping greenfield systems, making tradeoffs, and building reliable, secure software that interfaces with real hardware.

What you'll do

• Architect and build a local software interface that runs within customer environments
• Design and implement secure data pipelines from on-site systems to the cloud (push-only, constrained networks) partnering with our electronics and embedded software teams to ensure a seamless customer experience
• Build backend services to ingest, store, and process telemetry and system data
• Develop customer-facing and internal web interfaces to visualize and interact with battery data
• Define API contracts between firmware, edge software, and cloud systems
• Incorporate cybersecurity constraints from the outset (auth, encryption, network isolation)
• Collaborate with hardware and firmware engineers to align on data models and interfaces
• Establish early engineering patterns, tooling, and best practices
• Evolve the system as product requirements and scale increase

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Demonstrated experience building and deploying production systems end-to-end
• Experience across edge, backend and frontend systems
• Comfort designing systems where:
• • Security is critical
  • Connectivity may be limited or controlled
  • Data flows must be managed and often one way
• Experience with secure API design and data transport
• Ability to operate independently in a low-process, early-stage environment

• Understanding of network segmentation and firewall constraints, authentication and authorization models and encryption in transit and at rest
• Ability to design systems suitable for industrial / enterprise customer environments

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with IoT, energy systems, or industrial equipment
• Experience building on-premises software for customer environments
• Familiarity with telemetry, monitoring, or control systems
• Prior startup or first-engineer experience
