Description

Position Summary

The Civil Senior Project Manager is responsible for ensuring the successful execution of heavy civil construction projects while cultivating new business opportunities relative to a particular client, client group, geographic area, or project type. This position provides strategic leadership and oversight for all phases of project execution, including financial management, scheduling, contract administration, procurement, quality control, field operations, and technical management in accordance with contract requirements, engineering plans, project specifications, and corporate policies. Other responsibilities include preparing proposals, estimating costs, developing and forecasting schedules, planning projects, coordinating with engineering and field teams, overseeing field execution, mentoring project teams, and managing project closeout.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience managing heavy civil construction projects involving infrastructure, site development, underground utilities, environmental remediation, roadways, bridges, industrial, or other civil construction work and possesses a strong understanding of engineering drawings, technical specifications, project controls, and government contract requirements.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to all Company safety procedures and promote a culture of safety throughout all phases of project execution. 
  • Define project goals, policies, processes, and performance benchmarks in accordance with contract requirements, engineering specifications, project plans, and Company policies. Develop project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and execution plans to achieve successful project performance and favorable client evaluations (CPAR). 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients by strategically planning and directing all client communications necessary to achieve project objectives, strengthen client relationships, and support future business opportunities. 
  • Collaborate with the Pre-Construction and Proposal Teams during proposal preparation, estimating, and contract negotiations with architects, engineers, consultants, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors. 
  • Review and interpret civil engineering drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, utility plans, and contract documents to ensure project compliance and successful execution. 
  • Identify, plan, organize, and assist with project staffing needs while adhering to the Company's hiring practices and coordinating with the Field Operations Manager. 
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and other project personnel to promote professional development and successful project execution. 
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with established quality standards, contract requirements, and client expectations. 
  • Ensure project profitability by effectively managing project financials, including budget development, forecasting, cost tracking, earned value, progress reporting, and change management while protecting the Company's interests and maintaining positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and engineering consultants. 
  • Request and approve procurement of vendors, subcontractors, materials, equipment, and supplies within approved guidelines and project budgets. 
  • Coordinate with Superintendents, Quality Control Managers (QCMs), Site Safety and Health Officers (SSHOs), Project Managers, Project Coordinators, subcontractors, suppliers, and engineering teams to ensure successful execution of civil construction activities. 
  • Oversee Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, change orders, schedule updates, contract modifications, claims, and project documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements and contract obligations. 
  • Visit project sites to monitor construction progress, resolve complex field issues, and support project teams in achieving schedule, quality, safety, and financial objectives. 
  • Act as the QCM (Quality Control Manager), SSHO (Site Safety and Health Officer), or Superintendent to provide temporary support onsite when necessary. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Reporting Structure 

  • Reports to the Director of Operations. 
  • This position has direct reports.
