Position Summary

The Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of foundations and corporations whose charitable objectives are consistent with those of the teaching, research, and clinical programs of Washington University School of Medicine. This position will focus on foundation and corporate prospects capable of giving grants or gifts of $250,000 and above. The Senior Director will also hold supervisory responsibilities for other fundraisers on the team.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Fundraising: Identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of foundations and corporations

  • Maintain a portfolio of 30-40 foundations, corporations, and other philanthropic entities. Act as a central point of contact for portfolio prospects and provide excellent customer service.
  • Engage in qualification, strategy, relationship building, and proposal development for gifts or grants at the $250,000-level and above. Work with faculty and fundraising colleagues across campus to develop effective fundraising strategies that translate into successful proposals. May include being the primary writer on a grant or gift.
  • Identify, secure, and attend meetings for school leadership and faculty with foundation and corporation executives and staff. Host campus visits by foundation and corporate representatives.
  • Develop and implement innovative plans for enhancing stewardship of foundation and corporate donors. Provide timely reports of grants from foundations that have made philanthropic gifts to the University.
  • Responsibly document all work with prospects and funders into the constituent relationship management tracking system in a timely manner in accordance with the policies and procedures of University Advancement.

Supervising

  • Supervise 2-3 frontline fundraisers. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): regular meetings with staff, mentorship and training, advocating for resources needed to be successful, conducting annual performance reviews.
  • Work with CFR leadership to create individual and team metrics for fundraisers on the CFR team.

University Partnerships and Professional Development

  • Establish and maintain strong and effective relationships with the School's major internal constituencies, which include department chairs and their division chiefs, section heads, full-time faculty, and members of other key academic, research, clinical, and administrative units.
  • Serve as a primary resource of information about the School of Medicine and coordinate major interactions and communications between the School's internal constituencies and University Advancement.
  • Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and trainings.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the University by assuming primary responsibility for special projects as assigned, and performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned in a timely, thorough, and professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
