Operating Room, Support Associate (Part Time Weekend Days)

Under general supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Support Associate provides patient transport, patient care, and environmental functions. The Support Associate is responsible for transport, housekeeping, and patient care duties to facilitate patient comfort and an efficient work flow in the Operating Room.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs patient transports.
  • Provides surgical and diagnostic preps as ordered.
  • Performs daily operating room cleaning, using proper technique and chemical usage.
  • Performs necessary functions to ensure patient comfort and prioritize work load to facilitate an efficient work flow in the Operating Room.
  • Maintains and trouble shoots rolling stock.
  • Maintains clean and orderly cleaning cart and janitor closet.
  • Communicate with the unit based team regarding change in condition and unit concerns.
  • Restocks and collects unit supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Accepts responsibility for providing safe, appropriate and quality patient care.
  • Demonstrates competency in assigned scope of functions.
  • Takes active part in QA/QI.
  • Assists in training new staff.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting 2 hours per day, 1 hour at a time. Standing 5 hours per day, 1 hour at a time. Walking 8 hours per day, 10 minutes at a time. Frequent fingering and handling with occasional grasping. Continuously lift, carry and/or push objects up to 10 pounds. Frequently lift, carry and/or push objects up to 75 pounds. Transport patients via stretchers, wheelchairs and/or beds. Frequently stoop, bend, crouch and reach above shoulder level. Perceive attributes of object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation, high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision.

EDUCATION:

High School graduate/GED required.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Orientation to position with in-services and training. CPR certification.
