Responsibilities

INTRODUCTION

Serves as Social Worker within a Defense Health Agency Medical Treatment Facility. This position is located in the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP) unit of the Behavioral Health Clinic. The position's purpose is to develop, coordinate, supervise and administer a discrete comprehensive Substance Abuse Assessment and Treatment Program for all active duty. As a designated Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP), the incumbent coordinates SARP workload, supervises Navy SARP counselors' evaluations/treatment modalities on a daily basis, appoints or recommends appointment of staff to duties and collateral duties, ensures quality assurance, and is responsible for reviewing leave for SARP personnel under the direction of the Head, Behavioral Health Clinic to insure adequate division staffing.

 

MAJOR DUTIES

Manages a comprehensive outpatient substance use disorders assessment and treatment program for active duty. Under the direction of the Department Head, Behavioral Health Clinic, the incumbent shall have broad, independent latitude supervising the delivery of substance use disorder assessment and treatment services, including, but not limited to, supervising Navy SARP counselors and administrative staff assigned, supervising clinical screenings of all patients, supervising assignment of all patients under a continuum of care, coordinating care with other hospital providers and departments, and providing coordination of care with other hospitals, agencies, and community/government resources, including the patient's command. The incumbent serves as the head of the SARP Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) or Multidisciplinary Treatment Team (MDT) and holds substantial accountability for ensuring the effectiveness of the program through ongoing evaluation and performance improvement initiatives. The incumbent is responsible for identifying and implementing modifications to service patterns based on emerging clinical needs, best practices, and program outcomes. The incumbent actively promotes acceptance, understanding, and integration of the social work function within the interdisciplinary treatment setting and the broader organizational environment.

 

Supervises all SARP counselors; up to four personnel consisting of GS, CTR, or AD. The incumbent plans work, sets priorities and schedules work as necessary to assure effective and expeditious accomplishment of priority work without adverse effect on regular and recurring work. Looks to improve production and quality of work. Enforces and promotes safety to ensure a safe and healthful work environment. Abides by safety regulations integrating occupational safety with job training.

Assigns work to subordinates based on employee's capabilities, priorities and difficulty. Develops performance standards and evaluates employee performance. Provides technical and administrative oversight, advice and instruction.
