Job Description Summary

The NCVRTC is seeking a senior executive level national expert on crime victim advocacy, support, and services to join our team. The candidate must also have considerable executive level experience with research, training, and service grant programs within the Office for Justice Programs (OJP) in the US Department of Justice (DOJ). They must be able be able to work independently with little supervision but work closely with the team. They must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. They must have excellent contacts and a sterling reputation within the crime victim assistance, criminal justice, and related fields.

The primary purposes of this position are to meet three NCVRTC’s critical needs. These can be partially addressed by creating and filling this new part time position. First, recent events have highlighted the need to diversify grant funding portfolios given the uncertainties about NIH funding. Although the NCVRTC has had considerable success in obtaining grant funding from non-NIH sources, we believe that a strategic hire of someone with high level executive and policy experience with relevant grant funding programs in the Department of Justice could provide us with valuable strategic guidance in this area as well as assist with grant writing. This would enhance the prospects of our obtaining additional grant funding to sustain and expand our current work. Second, a key part of the NCVRTC’s mission is developing content based on our extensive research findings that is designed to be accessible to the general public as well as a variety of professionals who work with victims/survivors. We need a senior-level subject matter expert with excellent written and verbal communication skills who has high credibility in the victim assistance field to partner with our research team to develop relevant content to the field. Third, we need an executive with subject matter expertise, national visibility, and substantial credibility in the nonprofit and governmental crime victims’ field to help us improve dissemination and utilization of the many products we develop that could be revenue generating.

Work Schedule: 20 hours/week TBD by Division Director and the Employee

Job Duties:

• 35% - Collaborate with NCVRTC leadership and faculty in reviewing relevant grant programs at DOJ and OJP, identifying potential areas of grant funding, providing guidance in preparing applications, and participating in writing applications.
• 35% - Work with the NCVRTC team to identify gaps in relevant evidence-based information in the crime victim advocacy, support, and services field and develop priorities and strategies for addressing those gaps with written and online material, training curricula, and other educational methods. This also involves some writing and participation in training activities. A key component required is a broad, comprehensive knowledge of the field including where the gaps and greatest needs are as well as which ones are best suited for the NCVRTC to address.
• 30% - Use their comprehensive knowledge, widespread visibility, and contacts in the field to help the NCVRTC improve the visibility and utilization of its products.

Minimum Experience and Education: A master’s degree in criminal justice and extensive experience working the public policy, grant funding, and provision of victim services.

Preferred Experience and Training: A master’s degree in criminal justice with 40+ years of victim service provision. The team member must have the ability to collaborate with other members of the team to collaborate on external funding applications that are specific to the crime victim field. They will assist in identifying gaps in relevant evidence-based information on crime victim’s advocacy, support and services to develop strategies for addressing those gaps. They will use their comprehensive network in the victim field to improve visibility of the NCVRTC, disseminate information nationally on educational products and training materials that are evidence-based but relevant to and understandable to mass violence incident victims/survivors, victim service providers (VSP), and criminal justice system professionals.
