Job Description
Dewberry has an opportunity for an Assistant Department Manager – Plumbing/Fire Protection to join a growing group of professional engineers in their Peoria, IL office. Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering or mechanical engineering or demonstrate equivalent years of relevant technical experience. Project types may include healthcare, industrial, justice and mission critical facilities, energy and water conservation studies, facility condition assessments, and construction cost estimates. Tasks will include but not be limited to fire protection and plumbing systems design, drawing production, specification writing, discipline coordination between the various trades, shop drawing and submittal reviews, construction site reviews, and code reviews.

Responsibilities
Supervisory responsibilities include assisting the Department Manager in:
- Growing, mentoring, and developing the staff within discipline area to allow each person to achieve their maximum potential.
- Minimum annual evaluations for each direct report.
- Providing technical guidance/leadership for discipline area.
- Organizing staff in a way to allow career advancement, professional development, quality client service, and operational efficiencies to meet business and project financial goals.
- Taking a very active role in recruitment of staff in discipline area including networking, recruitment, interviewing and “deal closing”.
Required Skills & Required Experience
Technical and project responsibilities include:
- Work with a project team and lead the design of fire protection and plumbing systems.
- Field verification of existing systems, available space, clearances, etc.
- Load calculations, hydraulic calculations, sizing and selecting equipment, piping design, and editing of specifications.
- Prepare design documents using Revit software in accordance with Dewberry standards.
- Arrange for in-house quality review in a timely manner primarily to ensure that all the clients' needs and requests have been accommodated.
- Ensure and coordinate among all disciplines involved, including outside consultants.
- Conduct construction site inspections, obtain as-built drawings, and closeout materials from contractors.
- Some project management including scoping work, scheduling resources, and estimating cost.
