About the role
OVERVIEW:The Senior Accountant will be responsible for all fixed asset and lease accounting management, creating and entering the asset transactional activities for US GAAP, IFRS and Tax books in SAP. Assist in the compilation of asset packages of supporting documentation to complete audits, tax returns, response to notices, etc. This position is expected to apply various work practices, systems, and analytical skills to ensure the timely and accurate recording of asset transactions. The Senior Accountant also prepares, examines, or analyzes accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Review the fixed asset ledger in SAP for both book and tax purposes, proper depreciable life assignments and working with other departments to ensure proper capitalization procedures and asset tracking/documentation
- Create and monitor a system of controls, procedures, and capital authorization forms for recording fixed assets
- Serve as the Accounting focal point for all fixed asset and lease accounting matters
- Record fixed asset and right of use asset acquisitions and dispositions in the accounting system
- Track the compilation of project costs into fixed asset accounts, and close out those accounts once the related projects have been completed
- Prepare and post necessary fixed asset journal entries
- Reconcile the fixed asset sub-ledger to the general ledger
- Prepare and review monthly fixed asset roll forwards and reporting prior to final review by management
- Lead Fixed Asset verification process with all the sites
- provide guidance, perform detailed analysis and make decisions while managing lease assets on our balance sheet
- Perform detail review on accounting approach for leases
- Recommend to management any updates to accounting policies related to fixed assets and lease accounting
- Maintain and promote positive interaction with internal and external customers/partners and provide prompt, accurate service
- Develop and maintain strong understanding of department policies and procedures
- Assume responsibility for meeting all deadlines timely
- Keep superiors informed of progress and of any potential issues that might impede meeting deadlines
- Work closely with the tax group to prepare and validate information required for tax compliance
- Prepare audit schedules and assist the auditors in their inquiries
- Participate in financial estimates, analysis of actual results vs budget, and business reporting
- Proactively partner with their customers (site, function and/or business) to identify opportunities, resolve problems, and communicate potential risks or issues to management
- Participate in the annual business financial planning process
- Ensures general ledger accounts are maintained in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Journal entry preparation
- Reconcile various balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis to ensure all balances are reconciled and contain appropriate supporting backup
- Assists with the preparation and consolidation of the monthly financial statements
- Assist with preparation and analysis of monthly financial reports
- Assist with requests/documentation related to external and internal audits
- Assist with preparation of annual audit report
- Prepares other management and statutory reports, as required
- Performs other accounting research as needed
- Any other duties as deemed necessary
Job Requirements:
- Potential candidates are required to have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- CPA preferred, but not required
- Understanding of ASC 842 and IFRS 16 Lease Accounting Standard which includes lease contract reviews, lease identification, classification, accounting, recording, reporting, and reconciliation
- SAP experience preferred. Experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Ability to be pro-active - identify complex and/or significant problems and provide possible solutions
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to manage time effectively
- Ability to work independently
- Able to be a role model and lead by example
- Demonstrates the ability to be hands- on and the willingness to accept challenging projects outside areas of experience
- Strong coordination, communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills are required. Individual should be comfortable working with all levels and functions
