About the role

Job Duties:

  • Reviews and approves all journal entries including expense accruals, amortization and depreciation, gross potential rent, straight line rents and all other journal entries necessary to ensure books comply with GAAP.
  • Performs technical accounting research and analysis of GAAP and FASB rules and standards, if appropriate to determine impact on financial reporting. Is expected to stay current on accounting and reporting issues and topics.
  • Maintain compliance with internal control and Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) requirements.
  • Reviews and approves monthly Balance Sheet account reconciliations.
  • Provides Ad Hoc reporting as requested.
  • Assists in all aspects of the annual external audit and quarterly reviews, including the preparation of audit schedules as needed and collaboration with the auditors.
  • Is responsible for identifying and implementing best practices to improve efficiency and/or effectiveness of processes, including ongoing development and maintenance of internal control frameworks, including the identification of key controls, to ensure SOX compliance  
  • Reviews document tie-outs ensuring they are complete and accurate.
  • Is responsible for the coaching, training and development of their staff, including semi-annual and annual evaluations.
  • Review new and existing lease agreements
  • Set-up settlements according to contractual requirements
  • Set-up new leases according to ASC842
  • Assist with establishing framework for contractual obligations
  • Assist with process set-up to ensure complete population of contractual obligations is being captured
  • Review weekly/monthly accounting processes prepared by accountants to accurately record expense for financial reporting
  • Review journal entries prepared by accountants including expense accruals, amortization and depreciation and all other journal entries necessary to ensure books comply with GAAP and back-up follows SOX.
  • Maintain compliance with internal control and Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) requirements.
  • Review and approve monthly Balance Sheet account reconciliations and analysis
  • Assist Senior Manager with analysis of lease agreement terms for proper accounting treatment and review a set-up of lease terms in lease accounting software
  • Proactively assist with process improvement  
  • Communicate and maintain strong working relationships with Manager, Licensors, Landlords, Internal and External Auditors, Finance Leaders and Analytics teams
  • Assist leadership teams with special projects, research and supplemental reporting
  • Stay abreast of changes in lease accounting and provide leadership with updates, impacts and solutions
  • Supervise accounting staff and provide timely coaching and training, including semi-annual and annual evaluations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • 4+ years of accounting experience or 2+ years of lease accounting, forensic accounting experience is preferred
  • Experience of GAAP and accrual base accounting is essential as is the understanding of standard principles, practices and methods of modern accounting and office practices, procedures, methods, accounting equipment and software.
  •  Must have good experience with internal controls and Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliance.
  • Must have advanced level skills with Microsoft Excel/Word/Access and 10-key.Knowledge of AS400 & MRI a plus, but not required.
  • Excellent judgment with ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Must be organized and detailed oriented with strong analytical skills. 
  • Must have strong written, verbal and analytical skills.
  • Must be able to manage time efficiently, simultaneously manage multiple projects, have a sense of urgency and be able to work in an environment with multiple and frequently concurrent deadlines.
  • Must be able to provide responsive customer service to internal customers.

  • Must be able to lead by example and be a role model to staff, supervisors and peers.
  • Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and a team player.
  • Must be a forward thinker, be able to demonstrate excellent communication and critical-thinking skills and have an ability to work effectively with other managers, controllers, directors, and various levels of personnel in other departments.
  • Must be able to provide a timely, accurate and complete work product of the highest quality.
  • Must be able to work independently and troubleshoot issues.
