What You Will Do

As a Senior Lab Services Engineer, you will play a key role in our technical service organization, which plans, architects, develops, and supports communications lab environments. These environments are essential for analyzing, integrating, and testing communication systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support a variety of programs and research initiatives. This role requires thought leadership and the ability to guide stakeholders toward innovative and aligned solutions.   

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Supporting AST customer mission objectives through the development and implementation of lab area plans.

  • Providing leadership to establish and implement unified site lab area plans in conjunction with internal and external customers and service providers.

  • Managing and/or implementing lab environment projects

  • Overseeing lab environment compliance efforts (RTX, AST, State/local, Security)   

  • Managing daily lab area operations through best practice solutions  

  • Tasking, education, and mentorship of site lab staff 

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum eight years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field

  • Typically requires eight years of professional or military experience in leading, developing, and executing lab area projects, including requirements, planning, architecture, and implementation.

  • The ability to obtain a U.S. government issued Top-Secret SCI (TS/SCI) security clearance with polygraph is required.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Hands-on experience in maintaining and troubleshooting lab environment infrastructure and systems.   

  • Familiarity with standard lab practices, such as ESD protocols, Laser Safety, calibration, infrastructure management, and resource allocation  

  • Exposure to Windows and Linux systems, Shell scripts, Python or similar scripting languages

  • Virtualization and containerized systems (e.g., KVM, VMware, Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Knowledge of network best practices and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP) and enterprise-grade networking equipment

  • Optical networking interconnect experience including single mode and multi-mode transceivers and connectors 

  • Experience with remote management technology, IPKVMs, and network console servers 

  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
